What do you think of when you see or hear the boys' names 'Ammi' and 'Nolen?'?

Which do you prefer? 'Ammi' is pronounced 'AH-mee,' in case you weren't sure. I thank you for your input. :)

My son's middle name is Ami (Ah-Mee). It means "my people". I love it, but made it a middle name, so he wouldn't be mistaken as a girl or made fun of.

Reply:I've seen it spelled Ami pronounced the same for a boy and it makes me think of a guy that like tattoos seeing as it was the name of one of the owner on Maimi Ink on TLC or Discovery channel I forget which.

Reply:I think I would choose other names than either of these. The child would appreciate it, later on, if he doesn't have a name that sticks out like a sore thumb.





I have an unsual name, and people have given me a lot of grief all my life for it. I'd pay a million bucks if I could have been named Diane, or Susan or Mary or something like that!
Reply:Nolen is a great strong name ( but better spelled Nolan) but not Ammi, it doesn't sound masculine enough for a boy and it's confusing to spell or pronounce when it's written. Unless you said I would pronounce it as the girl's name Emmy.

I also really like Ammi, however I'd likely choose Nolen over Ammi, because it's more masculine, though both are great options!

Reply:I've never heard of Ammi but Im having trubol putting a face to it, Nolen is easer to see as a name. But Ammi, now that I hear it, does have a nice ring to it.

Ammi looks like Ami gone wrong (i.e. a girl) and Nolen reminds me of the singing sisters.
Reply:I think Ammi would be hard to spell for most people. Nolen is a good strong name. We almost used it when we had our first son.
