Why are unique boys names so hard to find?

My fiances name is Gilead and mine is Anneliese. I love his name and as you can see we both have pretty unique names (well I guess mine is not anymore) We really don't like the usuals:

Mike

Rob

John

Jason

etc. We want something a little different and are having such a hard time.

Why are unique boys names so hard to find?
Yeah i know what you mean. i have a very common last name so me and my DH want a different first name for our child. i mean i cant see naming a Child 'John Smith'. you know? even though that is exactly what my mothers wants to us to name a boy (john after my late father)

we are pretty set on our first born both boy and girl.

here are some of the ones on our list

Reply:Go back in your family history and look at names that come from whatever country your relatives came from. My history is Irish, so I chose an Irish name for my child. Biblical names are also good to look at - so are names in books.

Reply:go to babynames.com and click on guys names and look through the list or you can do shakespear names....aren't those unique???
Reply:Some boy names that are unusual: Alonzo, Dexter, Galen, Gavin, Gilbert, Jaron, Jovan, Marquis, Micah, Quinn/Quinton, Rafael, Rhys, Rhett, Tremaine, Weston, Wyatt, Zane.

Do you have a letter you want this name to start with? Do you want a name with a specific nationality (ie. Irish, Italian, Japanese)? Do you want a name that is more of a 'title' or 'quality/thing' (ie. title - Marshall, Marquis, Laird or quality/thing - Stone, Grey, Forest)?

Personally I think that it's harder to name a boy than a girl. Whenever I suggest a boy's name to my husband he vetoes it. Good luck!

Go to a baby names website and browse through their selections. You may want to find a meaning you like and find a name from a different culture that you like. Good luck.

Reply:My husband's name is Kael (pronounced Kay-il). His folks came up with it because his mom's name is Katherine, and his dad's is Elroy, so they put together the first two letters of each of their names. Kael and have considered doing something similar ourselves. My name is Kristen, so we have thought about the name Kaeten or Kaetin.

Maybe you could do something like that. Mix your first names or middle names.
