My name is Luna so I would like to name my boy along the same lines but I cant find any names that mean Moon, are there any celtic names with simillar meanings?
Are there any boys names that have connotations with the moon?
Here are some sites that list male moon related names:
http://www.behindthename.com/php/search....
http://www.20000-names.com/moon_names.ht...
http://www.babynamesworld.com/search.php...
I hope that you find a name you like by browsing through those links. I particuarly liked Balendu (a Sanskrit name meaning 'ascenting moon'), Jericho (a name of Hebrew/Arabic origin meaing 'city of the moon'), Koray (a Turkish name that means 'ember moon') and Kalavan (a Sanskrit name meaning 'the moon' or 'having fine arts').
If you haven't found any boys names that you like, you could always try something a bit different and look for a boys name meaning 'sun' - like Cyrus or Ravi. Here's a link to a good list: http://www.babynamesworld.com/search.php... . I think that it's sweet when two related people have opposite name meanings, like Phoebe (means 'bright') and Melanie (means 'dark')... The names 'match' without being too cutesy.
You could also look for names which, like Luna, have ties to ancient Roman mythology. There are some very nice and interesting ancient Roman/Latin names out there that would go nicely with your name. You can find more information about names from Roman mythology here:
http://www.behindthename.com/nmc/rom-myt...
http://www.nameandfame.org/greek.html
And if you still can't find a name you like, you could always have a look at the names of moons and/or stars in our solar system for idea's.... Something like Orion might be nice. =]
Best of luck!
EDIT: I just wanted to suggest Nymbler as a way of finding more names. You can enter a name into Nymbler and the site will aggrevate some more suggestions according to that name. When I typed in Luna the site recommended names like Kai, Axel, Leif, Finn, Noah, Avi and Max. Here's the link- http://www.nymbler.com/

Reply:The Moon in Celtic culture is seen as a she - Goddess - the most popular form of Moon Goddess here in Britain today is Estere, after whom the Spring Fest [Spring Equinox] of Easter is named.
The only way I can see for you to have a boy's name associated with the Moon is to borrow one from among the American astronauts who have actually walked on the Moon.

Reply:Celtic, probably not. The moon is associated with goddesses (gendered feminine) in Celtic stuff, as far as I know. Neil comes from Gaelic and reminds people of Neil Armstrong, though =)
If you are willing to go outside Celtic, there's Chandra and Rakesh.
(the moon is not gendered feminine in all mythologies)
Reply:Just call him Moon - that's a nice name. :-)
Reply:Celtic names...I don't think so.
Artemis? It means Goddess of the Moon or something, but it's a unisex name.
Jericho?
Reply:● My sources say no
Reply:Moon Unit.
Reply:well, Jericho is a Greek name meaning Moon City
I think it's pretty much the only name (with a meaning associating with the moon) out there that's quite bearable.
You could modify the name in to Jeri or Jeric.
If not, the second best and last alternative, meaning wise, would be Thoth -- he's an Egyptian moon god or something.
If you really want you could always go with Alan, Edwin and Neil..They all walked on the moon. :P
Reply:We have a lot of them in India, because Moon is masculine in our mythology. However, a lot of names related to moon such as it beams or shine are feminine and given as names to girls.
Boy names which mean moon:
Chandra
Chandrak
Shashi
Sharvarish
Shashank

Reply:The moon is a feminine energy, the goddess and the mother in many religions. That will probably make it difficult to find a male name dealing with the moon.
But..
The sun is the male energy, the god, the father, and the son. You could name your son along that line, Sol for example, you being the moon he being the sun.
Reply:Badar - "full moon"
Chand - "moon"
Jericho - "city of moon gods"
Koray - "ember moon" (turkish)
or how about "sun" names?
Cyrus
Samson
other:
Steren - star
Sterling - little star
Tarik - morning star
Orion - a constellation (stars), so that might be neat too :)
Reply:Moon is feminine. So this is difficult.
In India we have a name "Shashi" which means Moon. But to make it male, they add a second name to it. Like:
Shashi Mohan
Shashi Kumar
Chandra is also Moon. Used for both male and female again with a second name as above.
These are Indian Hindu names.
I have given you the easily pronounced ones only.
Shashank means Moon like eyes.
Chandrak means Moonlight.
Reply:pasty moon face
Reply:don't think so, how about Leo, that could be associated with the stars, other than that i can't think of anything
Reply:hmmm
Lunester?
Reply:Everyone's given you such really good answers, I particularly like the one that offered Sun names as a counter to your moon name, it fits if you think about it, anyway, I just wanted to say that I've never heard of anyone really named Luna before, and all I could think about was "Luna Lovegood" from the Harry Potter books, they called her "Looney Lovegood" behind her back, lol. Not that you're looney, I just couldnt' help but think of that.
Congrats on the new boy!
